The Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, through the Gender Affairs Department (GAD), has made significant progress in empowering women particularly in the business sector.A press release from the ministry says funding for women to start income generating activities has shown growth from P 2 million in the 90’s to about P38 million in 2016.

Women Economic Empowerment Programme is one of the strategies in an endeavor to alleviate poverty, satisfying one of the government key priorities of taking Batswana out of poverty.

 A total of 155 business proposals were approved at a total of over P30 million benefitting 970 individuals in 2015- 2016 financial year. This has shown commendable progress following the Presidential pledge.
