A body has been found in water off Sydney’s Bondi Beach after a man went missing from the same beach earlier this week. Police said the body of a man was found about 450 metres east of Bondi Beach just after 8am on Saturday.
A Police Marine Area Command vessel was sent to the area and recovered the body. The man has not yet been identified and officers say a forensic examination will be undertaken to work out whether the body is that of a man who went missing off Bondi Beach on Monday afternoon.
Twenty-year-old Endicott Ackerman was seen jumping into the ocean, just south of Icebergs at Bondi, on Monday afternoon but never resurfaced.
Witnesses told police they saw the young American man struggling before he disappeared.
“He just jumped in when the waves were going out and when the waves came in again he went under and couldn’t keep up,” a witness told AAP.
