Claiming that crime in Bihar had seen a decline following the liquor ban, he said, “I ask the UP CM that if you do not believe my word, send your people to Bihar… See the impact of liquor ban.”In his first public address in Western UP following his re-election as Bihar CM, Nitish Kumar on Wednesday took up the issue of liquor ban in the area, saying he would go from village to village to raise awareness about the benefits of such a measure.
Speaking at Jewar in Gautam Budh Nagar, he said, “Land acquisition is happening in this area and people are being given compensation for it. I fold my hands and request you, do not get into the habit of (consuming) liquor.”
“If you ask me to go to a village to make people understand that alcohol is a bad thing, I will come. If change comes to Uttar Pradesh, it will bring change to the entire country,” he said.Addressing an event to promote liquor ban in the state, Nitish spoke about the change in Bihar. He said he had written to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to take a similar measure. “I even requested him when we met that liquor sale should be stopped,” he said.
“The party here is called Samajwadi Party, there is no place for alcohol in samajwadi (socialist) thought,” he said. “Akhileshji is a youth leader, if he shows the courage, he has no idea the amount of support he will get.”
