BJP poll ploy: Separate conventions for separate voters groups

During the conventions, party leaders will hold discussions on the works of Narendra Modi government.
To target specific voter groups in the run-up to 2017 assembly polls, the Uttar Pradesh BJP has planned to hold separate conventions for the youth, women and other backward castes (OBCs). These conventions will begin across the state soon after BJP state executive meeting that is likely to be held in August first week.
On the directive of the party state leadership, all BJP’s district units have appointed leaders who will be in-charge of holding the conventions where party leaders will hold discussions on the works of Narendra Modi government and “highlight” how the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) “are responsible” for the state lacking in development and employment opportunities forcing youth to migrate out.
The schedule of these conventions will be decided in the party’s state executive meeting only.BJP state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak confirmed that the “party has decided to hold various organisational programmes to attract different sections of society.”
A leader of BJP Yuva Morcha said that in the youth conventions, the focus will be on young voters of age group between 18 to 25 years. “The party has collected the electoral roll of every polling booth, from which it will identify the young voters.
The conventions will be organised at the assembly and district levels where senior leaders will try to attract the young voters to BJP fold by telling them how SP and BSP had failed to give them employment while Modi government has launched various schemes like MUDRA for providing loans to start their own business,” said a BJYM leader.
Likewise, BJP’s Mahila Morcha leaders in every district will constitute booth level teams of workers who will visit door-to-door to interact with female members of the families, tell them about achievements of Modi government and invite them in the conventions.
“In these conventions, we will present the figures pertaining to crime against women recorded in the state during SP government. We will tell them how only BJP could empower women economically and provide them with a safe atmosphere,” said a BJP leader.
The OBC sammelans will focus on different backward and most backward castes. “Leaders of different OBC castes will tell the gathering how SP government cares for only Yadavs. We will tell them that only BJP-led government can implement the policy of social justice,” said a leader of BJP’s Samajik Nyay Morcha.
He further said that party will highlight the fact that Modi belongs to an OBC caste. The BJP will also highlight how it has “given honour to OBCs” by inducting Apna Dal MP Anupriya Patel in the Union Council of Ministers.
BJP has also announced an alliance with Suheldeo Bharatiya Samaj Party that claims support of OBC castes in eastern UP.
