Anubhav Sinha: Tum Bin 2 will restore belief in selfless love

As we meet Anubhav Sinha, the director of recently released Bollywood film, Tum Bin 2, the first thing to catch our attention is his t-shirt which reads, “Piracy is stealing.” The quote on his t-shirt made us curious to know what the director has to say about the subject. “I believe in this quote. Will you enter my house and just rob me of my belongings? I suppose no. Piracy is similar to that. The need of the hour is to create awareness among the consumers. All those who watch pirated movies need to know that in a way they are funding drugs and terrorism,” he said. So, what are your plans to fight piracy? I have already done my part. I alerted the Maharashtra police. Also, I have hired a Singapore-based company to take care that the link of the movie does not get leaked. Since we have heard you calling Tum Bin 2 a franchise movie, how are Tum Bin and Tum Bin 2 related? When the audience will walk out of the theatre after watching Tum Bin 2, they may easily relate to the earlier released version of the movie, Tum Bin. They can even relate to some of the sequences of the movie. But, it is definitely not a sequel. People need to know the difference between a sequel and a franchise. In times when Bollywood movies like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Befikre are redefining old school romance, it might get difficult for Tum Bin 2 to attract the movie goers. Love is a wonderful feeling and it will always remain old school. You can definitely have a different way of expressing it, but love remains the same. The kind of romance I have portrayed in the movie is aspirational. In this era where loyalty and trust in relationships have become an alien concept, I want to restore the belief of lovers in the old school idea of love which is selfless. Even this so-called new school love is also on a look-out for the old one only. Will PM Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move affect the collection of your movie, Tum Bin 2? Do you support the move? Definitely, the collections will be affected. The entire film industry is suffering because of it. And since I am no economist, I can’t say whether it is good or bad. But, it could have been better planned and prepared. Even my friends, who are otherwise economically stable are calling me to ask for money. So, the rich have become poor.
