Voicing her displeasure over the denial of ticket to her from Nihal Singh Wala Assembly constituency, sitting SAD MLA Rajwinder Kaur Bhagike has given a seven-day ultimatum to the party to review its decision. Otherwise, she would contest as an Independent.
Putting up an impressive show of her strength in the area, Bhagike’s supporters assembled at Gurdwara Sri Nanaksar Sahib, Takhtupura.
They voiced their anger with the party for denying Rajwinder the ticket on the “directions” of Agriculture Minister Tota Singh.
Tota Singh denied the allegations, saying winnability, popularity and public image of the leader are the criteria for the allotment of ticket for the Assembly poll.
Nihal Singh Wala is the native area of both Tota Singh and Bhagike and both leaders never miss a chance to hit out at each other.
This time, denying ticket to Bhagike, SAD has fielded SR Kaler, sitting Jagraon MLA, from the Nihal Singh Wala seat. On the Jagraon seat, the party has fielded Amarjit Kaur Sahoke, one of Tota Singh’s confidantes. Tota Singh was reportedly demanding that the party should replace Bhagike with Sahoke on the Nihal Singh Wala seat.
“My family has been serving the Akali Dal for the past 60 years and our association is without any blemish. On the dictations of a rival, the party has denied me the ticket, alleged Bhagike.
