Days after preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadhrianwale was attacked in Ludhiana, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today asserted that absolute peace prevailed in the state. He was addressing a gathering at Gurdas Nangal, 7 km from here, to mark the 300th death anniversary of Sikh warrior Banda Singh Bahadur. Sukhbir said his government would go to any extent to maintain the hard-earned peace in Punjab. He claimed Punjab was the “safest and the most peaceful” state of the country. “For the last five years, our state has registered a negative crime rate and even the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) had ranked Punjab as a state having one of the lowest incidences of crime against women. Communal harmony and law and order will not be allowed to be disturbed by vested interests. Punjab had remained a prosperous and peace-loving state and this will be maintained in future also,” he said.
