Alia Bhatt launches second song from her upcoming film Udta Punjab

Alia Bhatt launched the second song of her much-hyped upcoming film Udta Punjab at an event in Mumbai on Tuesday. The song in question is titled Ikk Kudi and, quite evidently, talks of her character in the film.

While the film’s first song, Chitta Ve featuring Shahid Kapoor, has already become a rage since its launch a while back, Alia hoped Ikk Kudi will be as popular. The catchy number has been voiced by Diljeet Dosanjh on lyrics by Shiv Kumar Batalvi and set to tune by Amit Trivedi.

Trivedi along with the film’s director Abhishek Chaubey and co-producer Vikas Bahl accompanied Alia at the do. The pretty actor turned up in a designer floral dress accessorised by matching pointed heels.

She kept her make-up minimal and wore no accessories with her summery wrap dress in blue and white. The highpoint of the event was when Alia took the microphone and crooned a few lines of the song, sending the packed venue into wild applause.

Alia, who had a professional singing experience earlier when she sang a number for her 2014 hit Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and even sang a small piece in Highway’s Sooha Saha, clearly enjoyed Tuesday’s impromptu singing bout.

Udta Punjab is an episodic film that connects four parallel stories related to the drug menace in the state of the Punjab. Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljeet Dosanjh star in one segment of the film each. Alia plays a budding hockey player in the film, who gets embroiled in the murky drug racket in the state. In sync with her character, she was seen posing with a hockey stick at the launch of the song, even as the gathered shutterbugs clicked away in frenzy.

Udta Punjab has generated ample buzz ever since its trailer was launched a few weeks ago.

Abhishek Chaubey’s roster includes Ishqiya and Dedh Ishqiya – films that revealed classy storytelling, fine acting, hardhitting dialogues and drama, and some hummable music. Fans expect the same from Udta Punjab, too.

For her role of a rising hockey player, Alia had to go de-glam in the film. This is the second time that the actor has done so, after Highway in 2014.

Ikk Kudi is a melodious number, which is why many were surprised by the choice of Diljeet Dosanjh as the singer of the number. Dosanjh, who is traditionally associated with peppy dance hits, has however done a wonderful job with the soothing ballad.Udta Punjab is slated to hit the screen on June 17.
