A University of Alabama student has been arrested in connection with the rape of a teenage girl on Saturday. Capt. Gary Hood with the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit said university police requested Tuscaloosa investigators respond to DCH Regional Medical Center yesterday morning around 10:30 a.m. When investigators arrived, they met with an 18-year-old female who said she was raped.
The victim said she was drinking with Joseph Tyler Pitts, also a UA student, in a dorm room when she lost consciousness. The victim said she was awakened by two friends, who came into the dorm room and saw Pitts on top of the victim, having sexual intercourse with her.
Officials investigated the incident and arrested Pitts, 19. He is charged with first-degree rape. He has been booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending a $30,000 bond.
