Maninderjeet Singh Bitta said the Narendra Modi government should call for an all-party meeting to discuss the possibility of removing Article 370.In the wake of a terror attack on an Army base in Uri which left 18 soldiers dead, anti-terrorist activist Maninderjeet Singh Bitta Monday said Article 370 of the Constitution should be removed “for solving the Kashmir problem”.
Bitta said the Narendra Modi government should call for an all-party meeting to discuss the possibility of removing Article 370. “A person from any state in India should be allowed to purchase land and start a business in Kashmir. Like people from different states live together in Maharashtra, we want the same to happen in Kashmir. The togetherness will help in the development of Kashmir and violence will stop ultimately. If Article 370 is removed, I will be the first to buy land in Kashmir,” he said.Bitta, who is the chairman of the All India Anti-Terrorist Front and a former leader of Indian Youth Congress, held a press conference in Pune to express his views on India-Pakistan relations and the Kashmir issue. Bitta said the Indian government should also initiate steps for preparing an “anti-terrorist military code” per which a terrorist held by the armed forces should be executed within six months.
“We need such strong laws to tackle terrorism,” he said. Bitta said that Pakistan is a cowardly nation. Asked about Pakistani artists visiting India, Bitta said, “I am of the view that art, culture and sports should not be disturbed. There is no objection to Pakistani artists coming to India. We are not against the citizens of Pakistan. However, the situation is serious now. So it is now important to make Pakistan realise its mistakes than welcoming its artists to India,” he said.
