NINE people have been arrested and one person was taken to hospital after a vicious brawl in Melbourne’s CBD early this morning. The fight broke out between two groups at the intersection of Flinders and Swanston streets about 3.30am.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Amelia Penhall said: “A number of people were injured in the incident”

Some of the men were believed to be wearing Hawthorn scarves and jumpers.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said one man, aged in his 30s, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with a head injury.

“He was in a serious but stable condition,” Mr Mullen said.

“Nobody else was assessed at the scene.”
