Peel Regional Police Const. Mark Fischer says they were walking to their vehicle when the woman was hit by a car driving southbound on Chrysler Drive.
“The 71 year-old female was walking across the street with other family members as they had just been in attendance at a banquet hall that evening. It appears that they were crossing mid-block, as there was no designated pedestrian crossing in the area.”
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 17 year-old male, was found a short distance away and has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
He was released on a promise to appear in court.
The woman has not been identified.
The Major Collision Bureau investigated the incident and the road has re-opened to traffic.
