A 71 year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a car while leaving a wedding reception in Brampton Sunday night. The woman was struck while crossing Chrysler Drive near Queen Street East as she left the Chandni Banquet Hall with family members just before 11 p.m.
Peel Regional Police Const. Mark Fischer says they were walking to their vehicle when the woman was hit by a car driving southbound on Chrysler Drive.
“The 71 year-old female was walking across the street with other family members as they had just been in attendance at a banquet hall that evening. It appears that they were crossing mid-block, as there was no designated pedestrian crossing in the area.”
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, a 17 year-old male, was found a short distance away and has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision.
He was released on a promise to appear in court.
The woman has not been identified.
The Major Collision Bureau investigated the incident and the road has re-opened to traffic.
