A seven-year-old boy’s body was found in the cupboard of his neighbour’s house at Malko village near Lambra late last night.Gurpreet Chumbar, alias Gopi, who is the son of a labourer, had gone to the neighbour’s house to take tuition last evening, but did not return.Gurpreet’s father Ashok Kumar suspects that the boy had been murdered while practicing sorcery.Nirmal Chand, paternal uncle of the victim, said, “Chicken liver, liquor, flower garlands and lemons have been found from the crime spot. The hands and feet of the child were tied tightly with rope and there was a grave injury on his head, giving an indication that he could have been hit with a brick placed nearby.”Chand said Mangat Ram, a mason, along with his wife, had recently taken a house on rent in the neighbourhood and was therefore not much known in the village. “Gurpreet used to visit their house frequently and had started taking tuition from a relative, who had come to their house,” he added. The theory of tantrik play gets substantiated even from the fact that Mangat Ram and his wife is a childless couple. According to the police, the child’s body has been handed over to the family after conducting a postmortem.ASP Bhagirath Singh Meena said it was too early to say that it was a case of sorcery. However, an FIR has been registered. Since the family of Mangat Ram along with the relative has fled the village, there has been no arrest so far.
