A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a terrorism offence in Kensington, west London. Scotland Yard said he was detained by officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command on yesterday afternoon.

The man was arrested at around 4.10pm on suspicion of ‘possessing an article for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism’.

The man remains in custody, arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, and a search is under way at an address in Kensington.

It comes just days after two brothers suspected of plotting to bring a Paris-style massacre to the streets of Britain were also detained.

The pair, aged 19 and 20, were held in a dawn raid at their West London home after a massive undercover security operation.
