Six people have been injured after a large tree fell on two passing cars in Surrey, police said. Two people were taken to hospital and a third was transported by air ambulance for treatment after the crash, which involved a Mini Cooper convertible and a grey Mercedes B Class.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “Four occupants from a white Mini Cooper convertible and two occupants from a grey Mercedes B Class suffered injuries, with three people being taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting for specialist care.

“One of the injured people was taken to hospital by air ambulance while the other two were taken by road.”

Guildford Road was closed while the emergency services dealt with the vehicles and the injured motorists, and tree surgeons removed the tree from the carriageway.
