Six people were found dead after a house fire early this morning in Syracuse, New York. It happened just before 4 a.m. on the 200 block of Martin Street on the city’s north side.
Firefighters say they were alerted after neighbors reported hearing an explosion. They arrived on the scene at 3:56 a.m., five minutes after the initial call went out. Firefighters attempted to enter the home through the front door but had to retreat when the fire caused the roof of the porch to collapse.
It took crews 30 minutes to put out the flames due to their severity.
Fire officials say they found six people dead inside once they were able to enter. Four of the victims were found upstairs, two downstairs.
We do not know the gender or ages of any of the victims. Firefighters say they believe they were all members of the same family.
One woman was able to escape the fire. She’s been taken to the hospital.
