A 57-year-old Ottawa man has been accused of sexually abusing a child at a home in Centretown over the course of 17 months, beginning in January 2015.
Ottawa police said they launched an investigation in August 2016 after receiving reports of abuse on the 300 block of Waverley Street, which is a block away from Jack Purcell Park, a community centre and Elgin Street Public School.
A man was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and uttering threats, and was expected to appear in court Friday.
In September of 2008 and again in July of 2009, a peace bond was ordered against the man “for fear of sexual offences,” according to court records.
A peace bond is a protection order issued by the court in cases where a person “appears likely to commit a criminal offence, but there are no reasonable grounds to believe that an offence has actually been committed,” according to the Department of Justice.
Police are concerned there could be more victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
