A five-year-old girl is dead after the canoe she was in capsized in the Churchill River. RCMP received a report at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday of the overturned canoe. Two local tour operators were on the river at the time and were able to pull out the young girl, her father and four-year-old brother.
All three were taken to hospital, where the girl succumbed to her injuries.
Police said all three were wearing lifejackets at the time the canoe capsized.
The incident does not appear to be suspicious in nature, but the investigation is ongoing.
RCMP in Manitoba want to remind everyone to be cautious when boating, and prepare for possible emergencies on the water.
