Lewis County spokeswoman Paulette Young says five people were injured. She said four were taken to a hospital for treatment.
A man who was hurt was eventually flown by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A spokesperson said the man was in serious condition Friday evening.
Young didn’t know the extent of the other victims’ injuries.
The horse was captured and returned to an enclosed area. It wasn’t immediately known what spooked the horse.
Young says fair activities were continuing but horse and carriage rides have been suspended.
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Young’s first name and said that two people were flown to a Seattle hospital. The story has been changed to reflect her correct name, Paulette, and that one person was flown to Seattle.
