5 People were hospitalized after a drug overdose Saturday night in Lake Villa, police said. All five are expected to survive after deputies responded to a home in the 39300 block of North Lake Avenue and administered doses of naloxone to two unconscious people about 11 p.m. Deputies found three other people “conscious, but incoherent,” according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s office.
The five — four men and a woman all between the ages of 18 and 20 — were all hospitalized, said Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective Christopher Covelli.
He said there were a total of seven people at the home, and a resident called 911.Local emergency responders began carrying naloxone — a drug designed to reverse the effects of overdoses for opioids /and opiates like heroin — in 2014 to combat a rise in overdose-related deaths. Last month, the Lake County Opioid Initiative said 72 have been saved because of the program. Investigators have not identified the specific drug that caused the overdoses and sheriff’s police continue to investigate.
