The police last night arrested five policemen and three jail warders for negligence that led to the escape of two prisoners from government hospitals.A prisoner from Kapurthala and another from Jalandhar escaped from Government ENT Hospital and Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, respectively.The Civil Lines police had booked eight persons, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), for dereliction of duty. They were suspended and separate cases under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC were registered.Pritpal Singh of Drumma Wala Bazaar, Sultanwind Road, was lodged in Kapurthala prison in a criminal case. He was admitted to the ENT Hospital a few days ago.Kirpal Singh, posted in the Police Lines Kapurthala, raided the hospital on July 2 and found that the police team, headed by ASI Yadwinder Singh, deputed for Pritpal’s security was missing.Following his complaint, the police booked ASI Yadwinder Singh, head constable Sukhwinder Pal, constables Parminderjit Singh, Sukhraj Singh and Tejbir Singh, all posted at Jalandhar, besides prisoner Pritpal.In the other incident, Lovleen Arora of Azad Nagar, Shah Kot, Jalandhar, was lodged in a city jail in connection with a murder case. He was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital on May 26. He dodged the police party and escaped from the hospital in the wee hours of July 2. The police have booked jail warders Karamjit Singh, Ranjodh Singh and Amarjit Singh.The police said raids were being conducted to nab the prisoners who had escaped.
