Three young girls on Wednesday drowned to death in Thado Dam, located near Gadap Town, while a man also lost his life in an attempt to save the girls. According to reports, four girls – Rehana Zahid Jokhio, 14, Maryam Kareem Bakhsh Jokhio, 15, Zareena Abdul Razzaq Jokhio, 16, and Farah, 12, all residents of the city’s Golimar area – were swimming in the dam when tragedy struck.
An area resident, 26-year-old Javed Jokhio, who was present near the dam jumped in to help the girls when he heard their shouts for help.
Unfortunately, three of the girls and the man drowned to death, while the fourth girl, Farah, was lucky enough to survive. The girl was later moved to hospital in a state of unconsciousness.
It took local divers two hours to find out the bodies, which were transported to hospital for legal formalities.
Later, the bodies were handed over to the family members of the deceased.
Talking to the media, their family members confirmed that the girls had gone for picnic at the dam. However, they complained that no rescue teams were deployed at the location to deal with any emergency situation.
Had there been any rescue team present on the sight, a family member said, the four lives could be saved.
