Five villagers, all from Jat community, were arrested by the police till the time of filing this report.
According to police, few Hindu girls from Paida village in Bijnore were going to school around 8 am on Friday. The girls were allegedly stopped by few Muslim youths near Nazibabad road. While the youths were harassing the girls, some villagers, few among them were also the family members of a girl, reached at the spot. The two groups of eve teasers and kin of victim’s, indulged in hot talk which soon turned into stone pelting. As the news spread, scores of people from both communities joined the clash that ended into gun firing and brick batting from both sides.
“Three youths named Haseenuddiem, Sarfaraz and Ahesan were killed in the gun fire while one other youth, who is yet to be identified, died during treatment at hospital,” said SP Rural Dharamveer Singh adding that those who were killed were from same community and two were brothers as well.
The tension which continued for an hour left dozen of people injured. As many as 7 injured men were rushed to Meerut. The police claimed that a man named Sansar Singh was the one who fired initially and later was joined by other villagers.
