A MAN who allegedly stabbed his flatmate to death yesterday morning will remain behind bars after not applying for bail in court today.

Michael Hadler, 29, appeared in Parramatta Bail Court today charged with murder after the body of his 69-year-old flatmate Brian Hamilton was discovered about 11.20am yesterday.

Mr Hamilton’s body was discovered by another flatmate at the Buist St, Bass Hill property where he lived with three other tenants who saw him alive on Thursday night.

“(He) had obvious signs of injury on his body,” Bankstown Detective Chief Inspector Glenn Fitzgerald said.

Hadler then turned himself in at Bass Hill Police Station last night before being charged with the murder.

He did not apply for bail and it was formally refused.

He will face Burwood Local Court on September 28.

Buist St was blocked to traffic throughout yesterday as officers scoured the street and the adjacent Walshaw Park for any sign of a weapon.

“It’s gut-wrenching to know it’s happened in your neighbourhood,” Steve Prince, who has lived around the corner for 41 years, said. “You have you’re odd incident here from time to time but never anything of this scale.”
