A 28-year-old Brampton man is dead after he got out of his vehicle on Highway 401 in Mississauga early Saturday, the Ontario Provincial Police say.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, spokesperson for the OPP Highway Safety Division, said police received a call about the incident on Highway 401 eastbound express lanes near Dixie Road at about 1:00 a.m.
Schmidt said a lone male driver struck something, possibly a pole, in the express lanes, and caused minor damage to his vehicle. He drove for some distance before stopping on a ramp where the express and collector lanes meet.
The driver pulled over on the shoulder, got out of the vehicle and may have been inspecting his vehicle for damage when he was pinned by another car and killed. He was pronounced at the scene.
Schmidt said police are not certain about his reason for getting out. Anyone who witness anything is urged to call the OPP at its Port Credit detachment at (905) 278-6131.
