Toronto police say a 23-year-old woman has died after an industrial accident on Friday afternoon. Staff Sgt. Ian Lamond said the woman was working at a food company when an article of her clothing got caught in a conveyor belt.
Lamond said the woman was found without vital signs at the scene, near Wilson Avenue and Clayson Road. Police arrived there shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday.
The woman was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police confirmed the death on Saturday, and her next of kin have been notified.
Ontario’s labour ministry is investigating. Lamond said if the ministry determines the working conditions at the company were unsafe, it could lay charges.
