Two suspected militants were killed and 11 arrested during combing operations launched by security forces in various areas of the provincial capital after the killing of three personnel of the Frontier Corps near Sabzal Road two days ago.

According to officials, the FC and police carried out the joint combing operations late on Saturday night on the outskirts of the city after receiving information about the presence there of suspected militants.

FC troops, along with personnel of intelligence agencies, launched a search operation in Sabzal Road, Kachhi Beg, Killi Tarkha and Eastern Bypass areas.

Armed men in the Sabzal Road area opened fire on the security personnel who cordoned off the locality and retaliated.

“Two suspected militants were killed during a heavy exchange of fire that continued for about two hours,” an FC spokesman said, adding that two suspects had been taken into custody from the Kachhi Beg area and nine others from Huda and Killi Tarkha.

“All the suspects detained during the operation were handed over to the authorities concerned for interrogation,” the spokesman said.

He said illegal arms and ammunition, including rocket-propelled grenades, sub-machineguns, pistols and rifles, had been seized from the suspects.

The spokesman said the men killed in the encounter belonged to a banned militant group.
