Rough seas off Torquay have claimed their second drowning victim in two days following the death of a kayaker on Saturday morning.
Police were called to Fishermans Beach in the popular Victorian coastal town about 10.30am, following reports of a lost kayaker.
Air Wing, water police and local police searched the area, locating the man in the water about 11.30am.
Emergency services pulled the man from the water, but were unable to revive him.
Police will prepare a coroner’s report.
On Friday a surf instructor pulled a man in his 70s from the water after noticing him floating in the shallows at Torquay surf beach.
The man first entered the water about 7am and was discovered floating, face down, about 30 minutes later.
Paramedics were called and rescuers from the nearby surf club attended but the man was unable to be revived.
In separate drowning tragedies on Friday, a man drowned at Blackburn lake in Melbourne and a girl, 1, was left in a critical condition after she was found unresponsive in Ovens River at Harrietville.
