The police in the neighbouring town of Hindumalkot on Tuesday nabbed two youths with 80-gm sedative powder. SHO Ramesh Sarbatta said a motorcycle was intercepted and search led to the recovery. Salim Khan of Sriganganagar and Angrej Singh of Nirvana village (Suratgarh) have been arrested. Preliminary investigation indicated that the sedative was also being used in Punjab to prepare tablets as a substitute for poppy husk after the ban on its sale in Rajasthan.
Two hurt in firing
Two youths were injured as car-borne miscreants allegedly opened fire on them on Monday. Sandeep and Lakhwinder of Kundal village near here were admitted to the Civil Hospital with some injuries. They told the police that the miscreants intercepted their motorcycle last night when they were returning from a rural fair.
PUDA employees protest
Members of the PUDA Mulazam Talmel Sangharsh Committee burnt the effigy of PUDA Chief Administrator in front of the PUDA office at Phase VIII, here, on Tuesday afternoon. The protesters were demanding to implement the pension scheme and allotment of plots to employees. Mohinder Singh, convener of the committee, said their strike had entered the 271st day but the authorities were least bothered about their demands.
NFL celebrates foundation day
National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) concluded its week-long celebrations on the occasion of its 43rd foundation day here on Tuesday. Events included blood donation camp, inter-house poetry recitation competition for students, “run for prosperity” of the NFL and tree plantation. General manager Nirlep Singh Rai distributed prizes to winners.
