Deputies arrested two men Thursday night after their vehicle crashed on State Road 408 while fleeing from a reported armed robbery. Orange County sheriff’s deputies said the robbery happened about 8:45 p.m. when a man pointed a gun at an employee at the Discount Beer and Tobacco on Alafaya Trail.
He demanded money from the clerk and then ran to a vehicle waiting outside, deputies said. The employee wasn’t hurt and deputies got a description of the vehicle.
A short while later, a deputy patrolling the area spotted a vehicle matching the description heading west on S.R. 408 approaching Goldenrod Road.
The vehicle got off onto Goldenrod Road, but then immediately tried to merge back on and crashed into a barrier wall, officials said. The vehicle crashed before the vigilant deputy could catch up, according to the sheriff’s office.
One of the men got out and ran, but was quickly caught by a sheriff’s office canine. The other suspect was arrested at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Both men, ages 22 and 29, were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries from the crash.
Deputies shut down S.R. 408 for sometime Thursday night while investigating. Officials haven’t released the men’s names. It’s unclear what charges they might face.
