Shankar Shaw and Guddu Singh allegedly kidnapped the girl early Wednesday from Brabourne Road and forced her into a cab.TWO DRIVERS of Ola cab service were Wednesday arrested from Kolkata’s Kidderpore area for allegedly raping and murdering a 12-year-old pavement dweller.
Shankar Shaw (20) and Guddu Singh (22) allegedly kidnapped the girl early Wednesday from Brabourne Road and forced her into a cab. They allegedly took turns to rape her inside the moving car, police said. The inebriated duo strangled the girl to death when she tried to scream and dumped the body in a canal in Topsia. Police found the body later in the afternoon.
“The girl was abducted from the pavement of Brabourne Road around 4 am Wednesday. Her maternal uncle lodged a missing complaint in Hare Street police station an hour later. Following this, Guddu was arrested from Ramgopal Street,” said Joint CP (Crime) Vishal Garg.

He added: “Following Guddu’s interrogation, Shankar was arrested from Kavi Tirthankar Sarani. The two have confessed to the crime.”
According to the primary medical report, the girl was brutally assaulted, said police. The body has been sent for postmortem.
Later in the evening, an Ola spokesperson said that the account associated with the cab had been “suspended”.
“We are saddened by the reports of the alleged misbehaviour of a driver in Kolkata. On preliminary identification of the cab details shared by authorities, we have suspended the account associated with this cab with immediate effect… As per our records, this incident has not occurred while on the Ola platform. We will work with the authorities to share any information that will help support their investigation,” the spokesperson said.
Sources said Guddu has been driving cabs for Ola for the last two months. In 2013, he was arrested in a robbery case. After being released from jail, he started driving for Ola.
The spot from where the girl was kidnapped is located around 1 km away from the Kolkata Police headquarters. Sources said the car, with the victim, moved around the city for about three hours before the body was dumped in the canal.
On August 21, some people had allegedly assaulted a woman and the driver of the Ola cab in which she was travelling at Patuli area of Kolkata around 11.30 pm.
The same night, a 30-year-old woman from Howrah was allegedly robbed by an auto driver around 10.30 pm.
