A couple from Swan Hill have died after their car left the road and hit a tree in Daylesford this morning. Michael and Jo Glare were killed after their Holden Commodore hit black ice on the Midland Highway and smashed into a tree at around 8am.
They leave behind an 18-year-old daughter.
Police believe the car was travelling below the 100km/h speed limit but the presence of black ice made road conditions dangerous.
“It’s not easily observable and will take a car off the road that weighs a tonne and a half easily,” Sergeant Robert Pama of Victoria Police said.
“The lower the speed, the lower the impact, the more that you’ll survive.”
A third person also died on Victoria’s roads today, after a woman lost control of her car and crashed with an on-coming vehicle in Bruarong.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was driving a Toyota south on the Myrtleford-Yackandandah Road this afternoon when she collided with a four-wheel drive heading north.
The men in the four-wheel drive, two in their 20s and another in his 50s, have been hospitalised.
