The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two persons for allegedly forging the signature of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a letter claiming that one of them was invited to organise a classical music programme as part of the Independence Day celebrations here.

The accused have been identified as Swaraj Kumar Roy and Suvendu Kumar Burman. The investigating agency has got their custody till July 27. The CBI said Roy is from Bokaro in Jharkhand. In May, he allegedly sent to the Prime Minister’s Office a letter, supposedly signed by Mr. Modi, to claim that he had been invited to organise a classical music programme on Independence Day.

Searches in Bengal

The PMO, which found out that no such invitation was given to Roy, referred the matter to the CBI. Based on the findings, the agency arrested the accused. The CBI also conducted searches at Bokaro Steel City and Bishnupur in West Bengal in connection with the case.
