As many as 11 persons of two sides today sustained injuries when a group of about 50-60 persons tried to “forcibly” take possession of 153 kanals of land at Sanghrerri village, near Bhawanigarh. They were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Sunam.During the fight, members of both sides also opened fire at each other that injured some persons. The police intervened and resorted to a lathi charge. They arrested 16 persons of the party that had gone to take possession of the land. Besides, over 50 persons have been booked under the Arms Act.Inderpal Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Sadar police station, Sunam, said this evening that on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the district administration had given the possession of 153 kanals to one Bhupinder Singh about two months ago. However, today the woman Sarpanch of the Sanghrerri village along with her relative Harjinder Singh, alias Gaggi, some Nihang Singhs and more than 30 persons tried to take possession of the land by staging a dharna on the said land, he added.The SHO further said this action of the sarpanch’s side was opposed by Bhupinder Singh and his supporters, leading to a clash.
