The government today decided to form a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) for the promotion of DIGs. The committee will meet on May 26. Sources said 10 officers were in the fray for promotion against three vacancies of IG.They said there were already 31 IGs and at most three more could be promoted. However, the DPC may approve promotions for all subject to availability of vacancies.The officers eligible for promotion are Nilabh Kishore, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, Shive Kumar Verma, Balkar Singh Sidhu, Gurinder Singh Dhillon, Mohnish Chawla, Surinder Pal Singh Parmar, Jatinder Aulakh, Mukhwinder Singh Chhina and Amar Singh Chahal.The Punjab Police have created 105 ex-cadre posts for officers of sports and armed battalion categories to maintain their seniority even as jostling has begun for the promotion of 1998 batch IPS officers to the post of Inspector General of Police (IG). Regarding the ex-cadre posts for 105 officials, the sources said they had lost seniority in the recent revision of promotions.
