One person has died following a fire that broke out in a Pitt Meadows home last night. Pitt Meadows Fire Chief Don Jolley said one person was found dead in the bedroom after the fire.

Police are still guarding the scene and said the fire broke out around dinnertime on Tuesday night at a home near 191A Street and Mitchell Road.

The BC Ambulance Service confirmed another person was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening burns.

Neighbours said a woman, her children and her parents lived in the home.

Jolley said the deceased person is not a family member. Police have identified the person but has not released the name. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but Jolley said while the house had smoke detectors, they were not working.
