An SUV rollover into a ditch on the eastbound Highway 401 in Mississauga left a 62-year-old woman dead and a 60-year-old man seriously injured Saturday morning.

The highway was reopened after a nearly three-hour closure in the area just west of Highway 403.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the OPP, which received the call just after 9 a.m., believes the driver of the black GMC Jimmy “lost control, and came out of right lane on the 401 eastbound. The vehicle subsequently rolled over and came to rest in the median between the collector and the express lane.”

According Schmidt, investigators also believe that the vehicle may have been in contact with another vehicle before it lost control.

Police are searching for a silver four-door sedan with a sunroof. The OPP’s Traffic Support Unit is doing a technical reconstruction of the incident.
