One person was killed, and three others were injured in a helicopter crash in the Filter Pada area of Aarey Colony, in Mumbai’s Goregaon. The person who died was a pilot.

Four persons, all occupants of the chopper, suffered burns and were rushed to a hospital where one of them succumbed to injuries, said DCP (Zone 12) Kirankumar Chavan.

Three fire engines were rushed to the spot and the blaze has been contained, a Fire Brigade official added.  Local residents alerted police and Fire Brigade after they spotted smoke billowing from the crash site. “We saw smoke in our area at around 11:45 AM and realised something untoward has happened,” an eyewitness said.

The helicopter, which had taken off from Juhu airport for a joy ride, is badly damaged. It’s a Robinson R44 Astro, and has the registration number VT PHB. It’s operator is Aman Aviation. The helicopter was made in 1992. It was originally with Pawan Hans, and was later sold to Aman aviation – which used it for joy rides after repairing it.
