A man allegedly smashed a store cabinet, stole a piece of jewellery and threatened staff during an robbery in Victoria Park on Monday. Kensington Detectives have charged a 21-year-old Bentley man after arresting him on an unrelated matter.
Police allege that a man entered the Albany Highway store on Albany Highway around 2.40pm and approached a display cabinet that contained jewellery.
“It will be alleged the man smashed the cabinet with a small axe and removed a piece of jewellery,” a police spokesman said.
Police say the suspect held the axe in a threatening manner towards a staff member as he was leaving the store.
Yesterday, a man was arrested by South East Metropolitan Response Team officers on an unrelated matter, and that man was identified as a person of interest to the armed robbery investigation. The man was subsequently interviewed by Kensington Detectives,” police said, addding that the allegedly stolen jewellery was recovered.
A 21 year old man from Bentley has been charged with Armed Robbery. He was refused bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court this morning, Saturday 25 June 2016. He is next due to appear in the same court on Friday 8 July 2016.
