A Hizbul Mujahideen militant was killed and two Army personnel were injured in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said on Monday.
Late last night, the Army and the police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) cordoned off Wangam village and launched an operation to nab the hiding militants.
“In the operation, one militant was killed,” said a police official.
The militant was identified as Sadam Mir, a resident of Chatripora village, Shopian. He belonged to a well-to-do family in south Kashmir and had joined the militant group in September.
In a fresh wave of recruitment, dozens of young Kashmiri men have reportedly taken up to arms in south Kashmir.
