The police booked four other members of the same family in connection with the case. Six members of a Ferozepur family were booked and two of them arrested in a case of heroin smuggling Friday.
Kartar Singh, a resident of Jalalwala village in Mamdot area of Ferozepur, and his cousin Baghicha Singh were arrested by the Fazilka police at a police Naka. Around 1 kg heroin and 500 gm gold were seized from them. The police booked four other members of the same family in connection with the case.
Among the four is Makhan Singh of Mehtpur area, Jalandhar, whose son recently got engaged to Kartar’s daughter. Police suspect Makhan handed over the heroin to Kartar.
“The engagement was a bid to expand the business,” said Fazilka SSP Narinder Bhargav.
Makhan has 3 NDPS cases against him in Jalandhar. Police alleged Kartar had supplied a portion of the heroin he received from Makhan to his uncle Vazir Singh and two other relatives, Buta Singh and Malook Singh. Vazir Singh has 7 NDPS cases pending against him.
Bhargav said, “In Kartar’s case, it was all in the family…All of them were involved in drug smuggling.”
