One person has died after a fire at an upper Stoney Creek home Tuesday evening. Firefighters were called to 206 5th Rd. E. around 9:23 p.m.

When they got there, firefighters found flames at the rear of the home. They launched “an aggressive attack to bring the fire under control,” Hamilton Fire said in a media release.

Police have confirmed one person has died.

Two firefighters were also injured and treated for minor injuries at the scene.

There is no damage estimate yet, but the home was heavily damaged.

The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating. Investigators are on scene Wednesday.
