A double shooting left one woman dead and a man critically injured in a Home Depot parking lot on Detroit’s west side Sunday morning, police said.
The shooting began at about 8:35 a.m. at the store located at 7 Mile Road and Meyers Road, after police heard reports of a suspect chasing a man and firing shots, according to Detroit Police Officer Shanelle Williams.
When police arrived the 33-year-old male victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the store’s parking lot. Williams said the man’s condition was not immediately known.
As police investigated, they also found a deceased woman with a single gunshot wound less than a block away, at a home in the 18600 block of Meyers.
“We do have two scenes that appear to be connected,” Williams said.
A 24-year-old man was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, but officers released no details about him.
The Home Depot location was closed for the day in the wake of the shooting, said Stephen Holmes, a Home Depot spokesman.
“They’re pretty shaken,” Holmes added of the employees.
