Station Investigation Officer (SIO) of the Korangi police station Wasey Jhokio who remained unhurt in an attack stated that gunmen ridding on a motorbike resorted firing which resulting the car got out of control and hit another car passing from the causeway.
He said that policemen on guarding the culprits sustained bullet wounds while kept in the car got the chance and flees. Culprits also took the rifles of the both injured cops and snatched a motorbike and managed to flee along with the assailants resorted firing on policemen.
Culprits threw the weapon just away from the crime scene and vanished after their swift operation.
The incident resulted in killing of one policeman at a spot and seriously injuring another, while the attackers managed a clean getaway from the scene after getting their accomplices freed. Deceased cop was identified as Rafiq and injured as Daim. They were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and medical treatment.
“One of them was brought dead to a hospital while another was brought with critical injuries. As the injured cop has head injury, he is remained in critical condition and doctors are trying to save his life,” explained JPMC’s deputy executive director Dr Seemin Jamali.
As soon as the news spread about an attack on the police, extra contingent of law enforcers including Rangers and police reached the site and inquired about an incident.
Interestingly, the only deceased cop had an official sub-machinegun (SMG) while the SIO Jhokio and injured cop had no weapon with them.
The SIO had already lost his official pistol from the police station on Friday morning which also raised doubts and travelling with culprits without weapons and a police mobile is a violation. The senior police officials said that they have ordered an inquiry about to probe a case. “The strict action would be taken against the officials if anyone found guilty,” said Additional IG Karachi Mushtaq Maher while visiting the crime scene.
Police officials said that detained accused were already charged in the murder of a policeman and a milkman as well. DSP Ghulam Nabi Wago said that the cops went to the court along with two accused persons, namely Muhammad Imtiaz and Abdul Malik who were involved in a murder of head constable Yousuf Lodhi on September 20 as well as a milkman, namely Babar.
“The fled culprits are basically professional criminals and have been involved in various criminal activities in Korangi including robberies, street crimes and drug peddling as well as they also linked to the Lyari gangsters,” explained Korangi DSP Ghulam Nabi Wago.
“They had killed a cop Lodhi as he was creating hurdles in the area to run their criminal activities while they killed a milkman during a robbing bid.” Following the incident, snap checking was enhanced and targeted raids were started by the law enforcers in Korangi and its surrounding areas.
