The CIA police on Saturday claimed to have arrested the mastermind of a Rs 40 million fake robbery, which was reported in Sabzazar earlier this week.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains told a press conference at his office on Saturday that Abbas Farooq, owner of an import and export business, reported to the police that six robbers riding a bike and a car snatched Rs 40 million from him near Liaquat Chowk in Sabzazar.

Accompanied by CIA Police SSP Umer Virk and other police officers, Wains said that a police team headed by Virk arrested and questioned complainant Farooq about the robbery incident. He said that Farooq told the police during the investigation that it was a fake robbery incident. He also handed over a bag containing Rs 40 million to the police.

According to Wains, Farooq told the police that he planned a fake robbery incident on the advice of his lawyer. He said that he wanted to use this incident against his business rivals. The police official said that legal action would be taken against Farooq and other people involved in this fake robbery as per law.

Wains said that such incidents showed sick mentality of some people who wanted to create a panic in the society and problems for the government and law enforcement agencies. The police official said that a man, Nadeem, killed his pregnant wife in the Race Course area two months ago over a second marriage row and then tried to portray the incident as a robbery. Similarly, he said, a man named Arif planned his own kidnapping and disappeared from his house in Kot Lakhpat.
